I have a business management degree from St. Louis University and have previously worked several decades for a number of large corporations (Maritz, Mastercard and Enterprise Rent-A-Car) before an opportunity came along for me to help develop a small company (only 5 employees) that provided documentation tracking and storage in support of the construction industry.
While I learned a great deal from the experiences gained in the “corporate world”, it was the time I spent at the small start-up company that I especially appreciate. The importance of teamwork was never more vital than in this situation where each person is heavily relied upon to do their job (as well as understand the responsibilities of the other team members’ roles in order to provide the necessary backup) so that a small company not only survive but also succeed. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to have worked in a variety of business industries and corporate environments.
Fast-forward several years to when another opportunity came my way in the form of Deca Realty. I’ve known Steve Young and his family since 1975 when we were high school classmates (and then college classmates too.) The chance to work at yet another small and family-owned company really interested me. I was already familiar with a number of the employees on a personal level, so a chance to work with them on a daily basis was very appealing.
So, in 2009 I came onboard Deca Realty – first as a leasing agent for a brief period of time while I obtained my real estate license, then I became the property manager overseeing Homeowner and Condominium Associations managed by Deca. Since then, I have moved over to the accounting department where I continue to enjoy the opportunity to meet and assist or clients (both owners and tenants alike) on a daily basis. The supportive work atmosphere and the shared sense of doing what’s right for our clients is what makes me proud to be a member of the Deca family.
On a personal note, I’ve been a St. Louisan my entire life. I’m the oldest of five siblings, I’m married with two adult children – a daughter and a son. My wife and I reside in the City of St. Louis – in fact, both of us have only ever lived inside the city limits!
