Lafayette Square

Lafayette Square was once known as the most fashionable neighborhood in St. Louis and still offers its original charm. Its focal point is Lafayette Park, known to be the first park west of the Mississippi. With many of the homes having small yards, the park offers an area of recreation for local families. The neighborhood regularly hosts concerts, food festivals and movie nights.

The homes in this area have been meticulously restored to their original charm. Any new construction must abide by strict guidelines to preserve the historic feel of the neighborhood. Many of the residences in this area are grand three-story Victorian Mansions. But for most of us who are not millionaires, you can also find townhomes for rent. Located just west of Soulard and South of downtown it offers quick access to many of the city’s popular locations.

Although it is not as large as other areas it is still home to a few of St. Louis’s favorite restaurants and coffee shops. Lafayette Square offers a welcoming community with a slower speed than downtown, a favorite of many.
